Tier 1 Support:
Classroom Teacher: Teachers are our first line of support as all students are considered Tier 1. Teachers will use research-based instruction to support all students to the best of their ability. PAC: Panther Academic Coaching is a study hall course staffed by two certified teachers. This course focuses on freshman and their transition into high school. PAC teachers provide tips on study habits, test-taking strategies, note-taking strategies, model best-practice techniques, and assist students in monitoring grades, communicating with teachers, and acclimating to the expectations of a high school student. Study Lab/Peer Tutoring: Peer tutoring goal is to reach as many students as possible to provide help with assignments, review for tests or to answer questions about assignments. The lab is staffed with student/peer tutors and at least one certified teacher. Times are available before school and during school. Tier 2 Support: PAC Plus: These students have been identified as needing additional support beyond the Tier 1 options. Panther Academic Coaching (PAC) Plus focuses on sophomores - seniors and the executive skills needed to be successful at WCHS. Note-taking, study skills, modeling effective communication and daily/weekly one-on-one conferencing on topics such as grades, classroom behavior, goals are expected to take place in this course. Intervention Courses: These courses are taught by two educators: a content specialist as well as a learning specialist. All course are 50-90 minutes long and address necessary standards. These courses also address identified learning strategies to help students continue to be successful in their educational journey. Frequent assessments and implementation of research-based strategies are consistently utilized. All students in these supportive courses have been identified as needing additional support in order to be successful at WCHS. Block Algebra 1 Biology English 1 Comp & Lit College Prep Reading Block American Studies Practical Geometry Health Algebra 2 Modified Math Lab: Math Lab is a study environment specific to students identified with math deficits, as well as students completing remedial math. These students work with a certified math teacher on specific deficits that have been identified, and work with that teacher on math components that lead to the failure of a previous math course. Research-based strategies are modeled and taught as well. |
