Tier 1: This tier is the base or largest level and represents majority of the student body. This level of support is served by the core instructional programs. Classroom teachers complete data as needed and monitor and adjust learning strategies for an optimal learning environment. While classroom teachers provide Tier 1 support, differentiated and personalized instruction is implemented as much as possible to produce best results for higher as well as lower achieving students. Ideally, 80% - 85% of the student body will be served by Tier 1.
Tier 2: This tier represents a smaller grouping of students who may require additional help - "interventions" - in addition to (though not replacing) the core, to achieve the learning rate necessary to meet academic benchmarks. Tier 2 interventions are strategic, targeted, and evidence-based. Assistance may be delivered individually or in small groups. Typically, 10%-15% of the student body will be served by Tier 2.
Tier 3: This tier represents the smallest group of the student body. This group has been identified as needing even more assistance - "intensive" interventions - to achieve the same goals as Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 3 interventions are individualized and may adjust the core program and expectations. Typically, 5%-10% of the student body will be served by Tier 3.
